Inspiration, joy and connection are the emotions that all women tap into during their retreat at the pastures, an idyllic, contemplative place created by founder Bridget Ford Hughes in New Marlborough, Massachusetts. These women are all cancer survivors. They share a common bond that is only possible because of their life journeys. The retreat awakens for them hope, courage, sharing and learning. The program includes sessions on a range of resources; nutrition, fitness, contemplation, reflection and future planning. They all leave armed with the knowledge that they are not alone but are surrounded by caring sisters who are there to help them with their healing and recovery. All women who cross the threshold of the pastures are immediately engulfed in an eco-sphere of community and comfort.
Bridget Ford Hughes, founder of the pastures, is one of 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. She realized eventually that, to heal, she needed to shift her thinking to living fully now. Yet throughout her own transformative journey, she felt unprepared and sometimes overwhelmed. This experience inspired her to create the pastures as a nurturing retreat space for women at various stages of cancer to become better informed, prepared, and supported in their quest for healing.
The pastures’ philosophy is that true healing can occur within a sacred space devoted to helping breast cancer patients and survivors by including them as part of a supportive community that informs, guides, heals and embraces them along their path to wellness.
